Aminah Robinson Fayek, P.Eng., PhD

Dr. Aminah Robinson Fayek, P.Eng., is a professor of construction engineering and management at the University of Alberta. Since joining the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in 1997, Dr. Fayek has excelled as an educator, demonstrating composure, professionalism, and thoughtful instruction.

Within the classroom, Dr. Fayek is skilled at anticipating concepts that students may struggle with and providing focused explanations that illustrate a clear connection back to the broader discussion. She pays close attention to the needs of her students, seeks input on the pace and clarity of her instruction, and encourages her students to customize projects to fit their specific interests.

Dr. Fayek is also committed to her own learning and growth as an instructor. She strives to improve the quality of her teaching and is always open to modifying her lecture content in response to feedback from colleagues and students.

In addition to being awarded the prestigious Killam Annual Professorship in 2013, which recognizes excellence across diverse domains of academic activity, she has held the Ledcor Professorship in Construction Engineering since 2008. Through this role, she acts as a liaison between Ledcor and the University of Alberta to administer scholarships and to prepare engineering graduates for careers in industry or academia.

Her passion for her work has led her into a range of outreach activities focusing on advancing diversity and inclusivity in engineering, such as her involvement with Women in Scholarship, Engineering, Science & Technology.
