Self-regulation means that the privilege of practising engineering is entrusted to the profession, with the responsibility to uphold high standards of competence, ethics, and accountability in the public interest. It requires independent judgement, fairness, and decision-making free from personal or organizational bias. For me, effective self-regulation is grounded in integrity, transparency, consistency, and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
What would you bring to Council?
I bring governance experience, regulatory understanding, and a strategic mindset developed through leading complex public-sector infrastructure projects. I have worked within formal oversight frameworks, balanced competing priorities, and supported evidence-based decision-making in high-accountability environments. I bring a thoughtful, collaborative approach and a practical understanding of how council decisions affect members, the profession, and public confidence.
As the regulator of engineering and geoscience, what challenges does APEGA face?
APEGA faces challenges arising from evolving technologies, increasing public expectations, labour mobility, and the need for clear and responsive regulatory frameworks. The profession must adapt to change while maintaining public safety, ethical practice, and consistent standards. Strengthening public trust through transparent communication, consistent oversight, and meaningful engagement with current and future professionals remains essential.

An APEGA licence signifies that an individual meets rigorous standards of competence, ethics, and accountability, and is trusted to practise engineering in the public interest. It grants both the authority and responsibility to take professional accountability for work that affects public safety.
