- Acceptable courses, equivalents, and syllabi
- The World Education Services Degree Equivalency Tool
Your academic qualifications will be assessed against APEGA’s engineering or geoscience syllabus requirements. If you do not meet the academic requirements, you may be:
- assigned exams to address identified academic deficiencies
- required to write confirmatory exams to verify the quality, depth, and breadth of your education
- refused
If you do not have a university degree in engineering or geoscience and there is a significant academic deficiency, your work experience may not be reviewed. You must provide your conferred undergraduate degree, and, if applicable, any:
- postgraduate degrees
- transfer credit transcripts
- university entrance exams or A-level exams
If you completed your education outside Canada, refer to the World Education Services section below
Academics for Professional Engineers
Engineers-in-Training
If you are currently an active engineer-in-training with APEGA, you do not need to submit your academic documents again unless you are claiming postgraduate work experience credit and the conferred transcripts for your postgraduate degree were not previously submitted.
If your engineer-in-training status expired or you were not in good standing before starting your licensee or professional membership application, you must submit your academic documents again for assessment.
Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board
If your undergraduate engineering degree was accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB), APEGA will accept an official transcript sent directly from the degree-granting institution. Your degree must be conferred.
Non-CEAB & International Programs
If your engineering degree was not accredited by the CEAB, you must have the following documents sent directly to APEGA from the degree-granting institution.
- Undergraduate degree transcripts
- Postgraduate degree transcripts, if applicable
- Transfer credit transcripts, if applicable
- University entrance exams or A-level exams, if applicable
If you completed your degree outside Canada, you must also obtain a World Education Services Course-by-Course International Credential Advantage Package report.
Academics for Professional Geoscientists
Geoscientists-in-Training
If you are currently an active geoscientist-in-training with APEGA, you do not need to submit your academic documents again unless you are claiming postgraduate work experience credit and your postgraduate transcripts were not previously submitted.
If your geoscientist-in-training status expired or you were not in good standing before starting your licensee or professional membership application, you must submit your academic documents again for assessment.
Geoscience and International Degrees
If you completed a geoscience degree, you must have the following transcripts sent directly to APEGA from the degree-granting institution:
- Undergraduate degree
- Postgraduate degree (if applicable)
- Transfer credit (if applicable)
If you completed your degree outside Canada, you must also obtain a World Education Services Course-by-Course International Credential Advantage Package report.
World Education Services for International Graduates
If you completed your education outside Canada, you must provide a World Education Services (WES) Course-by-Course International Credential Advantage Package (ICAP) report.
WES is an international credential evaluation service designated by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada to provide educational credential asessments for education completed outside Canada. WES is the only international credential service APEGA recognizes, and we will accept only its Course-by-Course ICAP report.
Read About the WES Course-by-Course ICAP Report
All transcripts, including transfer credits, must be included in your WES Course-by-Course ICAP report. APEGA does not accept industry training (e.g., journeyman) certificates, professional development, or continuing education.
WES Course-by-Course ICAP Report vs. APEGA's Board of Examiners
WES Course-by-Course ICAP Report:
- verifies the authenticity of your academic documents
- completes any translations required of your academics
- establishes the equivalent level of your academic credentials compared with the Canadian university system
APEGA's Board of Examiners:
- reviews your degree to ensure it is a degree in engineering or geoscience
- confirms the acceptability of the course content and performance of your degree
- ensures your degree meets the legal requirements for licensure
How to Obtain a WES Report
Obtain a WES Course-by-Course ICAP report by following the steps below.
- Start an application through myAPEGA and receive your APEGA ID. You will need this ID to order your WES Course-by-Course ICAP report.
- In myAPEGA’s online application system, complete the required steps. After adding your education in Step 5, follow the instructions to continue to the WES website.
- Follow the instructions provided by WES. If you already have a WES evaluation, you may need to upgrade it to a Course-by-Course ICAP report.
- WES will send your completed evaluation report directly to APEGA electronically. Physical copies will not be accepted.
Monitor the status of your report through your WES account and notify APEGA at [email protected] if there are any delays in receiving the report. You have 90 days from the date you submit and pay for your application to provide all required academic documents to APEGA.
Please note that if WES does not submit a completed report within 90 days of your application submission, your application will be withdrawn. Consider waiting to submit your application until your WES report has been completed and is ready to be sent to APEGA.
How to Deliver Transcripts to APEGA
Important: APEGA does not accept transcripts received directly by applicants. Transcripts that you upload, email, or mail yourself will not be accepted.
To complete your application, your transcripts must be sent directly to APEGA by the issuing institution or through an approved transcript service, as outlined in the table below.
Canadian-Earned Transcripts (CEAB and Non-CEAB)
Electronic transcripts
APEGA accepts electronic transcripts from Canadian institutions. This is the fastest way to have your transcripts received and reviewed.
You may ask your institution’s Registrar’s Office to email your transcripts directly to [email protected], or you follow your institution’s process for sharing digital transcripts. When prompted:
- Select Generate a link to my documents (or equivalent)
- Name of Organization: APEGA
- Recipient: [email protected]
You do not need to include an expiry date. If an access pin is required, email the pin separately to [email protected].
Note: Do not download your transcripts and forward them to APEGA yourself. Transcripts emailed by applicants, or links included in personal emails, will not be accepted.
Physical transcripts
If electronic transcripts are not available, official sealed or stamped transcripts must be sent directly to APEGA by the issuing institution. Documents may also be accepted if you deliver them in the original sealed envelope and they have not been opened.
Transcripts must include the degree conferral date and should be addressed to Attention: Registration.
International Transcripts
APEGA does not accept transcripts or other academic documents directly from applicants for international education. The completed WES report must be sent electronically from WES directly to APEGA. Physical copies and applicant-submitted copies will not be accepted.
Note: Please request that your WES report be issued in English.
Advanced Placement Courses
If you received transfer credit through advanced placement (AP) courses, have the transcript sent directly to APEGA by the issuing high school or college, as WES does not evaluate AP coursework.
