Authenticating Professional Work Products

The Authenticating Professional Work Products practice standard is now enforceable. Ensure you understand your professional responsibilities and obligations as APEGA licensed professionals.

Revisions to Authenticating Professional Work Products

The practice standard Authenticating Professional Work Products has been revised to provide additional clarity on both authentication and validation requirements, and is effective and enforceable starting May 1, 2021. The practice standard has been enforceable as of November 1, 2020.

Changes include revised definitions, clarification to the three-part authentication test, and the addition of the APEGA ID number as a requirement to complete both authentication and validation.

The authentication infographics have been updated to reflect the revisions made to the practice standard.

Understanding and properly implementing authentication, particularly in the digital space, is one of the most talked-about challenges licensed professionals face in their practice. The practice standard Authenticating Professional Work Products improves definitions and adds clarity to this important professional responsibility.

Areas addressed in the practice standard include:

  • defining professional work products to enable licensed professionals to better determine what should be authenticated
  • defining a Responsible Member's validation of professional work products
  • standardizing authentication and validation formats to enable licensed professionals, permit holder, and the public to easily identify the authenticator and the validator, as well as the dates of authentication and validation
  • discussing the uses of digital technology to authenticate professional work products
  • setting the requirements for the authentication of professional work products imported into or exported from Alberta
  • providing considerations for the retention and storage of authenticated professional work products

The new APEGA stamp has been redesigned to include the licensed professional's APEGA ID number.
