Continuing Professional Development Practice Standard Now Enforceable

On November 1, 2026, APEGA’s revised Continuing Professional Development practice standard became enforceable after a one-year transition. This practice standard and the Personal Annual Competency Evaluation practice guideline detail APEGA’s continuing professional development (CPD) requirements and best practice recommendations.

The revised standard puts more emphasis on licensed professionals holding themselves accountable for remaining competent. This includes completing mandatory learning modules in myAPEGA and planning CPD activities tailored to their needs and areas of practice through the creation and maintenance of a Personal Annual Competency Evaluation (PACE) plan.

All CPD requirements have been assigned, and there is a one-year period to complete them. All licensed professionals should now have created their PACE plan and be working towards completing their learning activities prior to their next renewal date, when compliance will be assessed and enforced.

We encourage all licensed professionals to log in to their myAPEGA dashboard and make note of their CPD requirement deadlines.

How to Stay in Compliance

To comply with the new CPD requirements, before your next annual renewal date, you must:

  • complete the mandatory learning modules assigned in myAPEGA, which take an average of six to eight hours to complete in total
  • create and maintain your PACE plan—a downloadable template is available
  • declare in myAPEGA that you have created, documented, and followed your PACE plan—this declaration will be available in myAPEGA two months before your annual renewal date
