Preparing for CPD Requirement Enforcement and Improving Interprovincial Mobility
In two months, APEGA will begin enforcing the revised Continuing Professional Development practice standard, which was published and came into effect on November 1, 2025. The revised practice standard becomes enforceable for each licensed professional at their next annual renewal on or after November 1, 2026.
If you are a licensed professional with a November renewal date, this serves as your 60-day reminder that the revised practice standard will soon become enforceable for you. You will also receive an auto-generated notification in myAPEGA.
All licensed professionals should take the opportunity to check their myAPEGA dashboard for their upcoming continuing professional development (CPD) deadlines. Be sure to complete your CPD requirements before your renewal date. This includes completing all mandatory learning modules and declaring that you have created and followed your Personal Annual Competency Evaluation (PACE) plan.
If you do not complete these requirements before your renewal date in myAPEGA, your CPD period will be marked as not compliant in your registration history with APEGA.
If you are reporting your CPD in another jurisdiction
As of August 24, if your home address is outside Alberta, you primarily practise engineering or geoscience, and you are registered with the regulator in the jurisdiction where you are a resident (your home jurisdiction), you can submit a request directly in myAPEGA for an exception from APEGA’s CPD requirements.
This change reflects the continued collaboration between all 12 Canadian engineering and geoscience regulators and Engineers Canada to improve interprovincial mobility by reducing unnecessary duplication in the professional development reporting process for licensed professionals registered in multiple jurisdictions.
To be eligible, you must already complete, track, and be compliant with the CPD or continuing competence requirements of the regulator where you reside. If your request is approved, you will continue meeting the CPD requirements of your home jurisdiction instead of APEGA’s.
You will see a drop-down option in your myAPEGA dashboard to declare that you are reporting your CPD in another jurisdiction. Be sure to review the eligibility criteria closely before submitting a request for this exception.

Preparing for CPD enforcement
To ensure compliance with the new CPD requirements, before your next annual renewal date, you must:
- complete the mandatory learning modules assigned in myAPEGA, which take an average of 6–8 hours to complete in total
- create and maintain your PACE plan— a downloadable template is available for you to use
- declare in myAPEGA that you have created, documented, and followed your PACE plan—this declaration will be available in myAPEGA two months before your annual renewal date
We also recommend you review the revised Continuing Professional Development practice standard, refamiliarize yourself with the Personal Annual Competency Evaluation practice guideline, and establish an ongoing process for maintaining your CPD records and supporting documentation.
