Strategies for strengthening relationships from a distance. Staying connected and maintaining relationships in challenging times can be difficult and it can become even more complicated when the opportunities for in-person connection are limited. Whether it is the because of work, illness, or circumstance, our relationships and well-being can be impacted. This course explores strategies for establishing and retaining these important and beneficial connections.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Define and describe social connection
  • Explore why social connection is important for our mental health
  • Identify key strategies to strengthen your social connections

About the Speaker

Dixie Estrin-3

Dixie Estrin comes from a background in nursing and works in the mental health field. She has enjoyed working with various agencies and programs supporting individuals in their career path while supporting growth in mental health. Her previous work included working for Native Counselling Services of Alberta as an intake worker and course facilitator. Dixie's primary roles today include working as a peer facilitator for the Canadian Mental Health Association's Recovery College and as a suicide intervention trainer. She has had the privilege of delivering applied suicide intervention skills training throughout various First Nations in central and northern Alberta. She is passionate about community, connection, and supporting people in their journey.

 

 

 

 

Jeremy Livingston-resized

Jeremy Livingston is a recovery facilitator and peer facilitator for the Canadian Mental Health Association Edmonton Recovery College. He has studied philosophy at the graduate level, and law. He is originally from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and has lived in Edmonton for the past nine years.
