APEGA Teacher's Professional Development Program

Each year APEGA receives requests from teachers for support in the classroom. We recognize that teachers are key in the development of knowledge, skills, and attitudes which are crucial for our future engineers and geoscientists. We strive to provide training and resources to assist teachers in fostering a love of learning and creating real-world connections to curriculum.

APEGA is pleased to announce that we are adding a Teacher Professional Development component to our Outreach initiatives. We will be hosting 35 Alberta teachers for a two-day, hands-on professional development conference in Edmonton on April 10 and 11, 2018. This event offers teachers insight into our unique perspective on STEM education, particularly highlighting ways that engineering and geoscience connect to classroom learning outcomes.

While we intend to offer professional development for primary and secondary teachers, the current event will be focusing on teachers of grades 1-9 at this time. Topics included in this event will include project-based learning, math visualization, and evaluating STEM skills. APEGA believes that experiential learning is key for all learners; therefore this event will be very collaborative, hands-on, and interactive. A detailed schedule of sessions will be available when registration opens.

In order to ensure fair and equal access to this opportunity, APEGA will be advertising this event prior to opening registration. Registration will go live at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 15 and spots will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. To allow a variety of schools and school boards to take part in this opportunity, we ask that each school registers a maximum of three representatives.
