How to Find Your First Job

Landing your first job can feel overwhelming especially when titles vary, requirements seem high, and everyone keeps asking for “experience.” This practical, fast-paced session breaks down exactly how postgraduate students can position themselves for success. You’ll learn how to understand the labour market, choose a clear career direction, and create strong application materials that highlight your strengths. We’ll walk through what employers are really looking for, how to tailor your resume and cover letter, and how to present your academic and project experience with confidence. You’ll leave with clear steps and strategies to start your job search immediately.

How to Network Effectively

A considerable percentage of jobs are never publicly advertised they’re shared through conversations, relationships, and professional networks. The good news? Networking doesn’t require being extroverted or having industry experience. In this session, you’ll learn how to build real, meaningful connections that support your job search and long-term career. We’ll cover both in-person and online networking strategies, including how to approach people at events, how to reach out on LinkedIn, and how to hold confident coffee chats with other professionals, hiring managers, and alumni. Using simple scripts and practical examples, you’ll discover how to grow your network authentically, even as an emerging professional.
