Edmonton Branch | City of Edmonton District Energy Plant Tour
The first phase of the Downtown District Energy Initiative provides heating services to the Winspear Centre (and its future expansion), Chancery Hall, and Century Place, and serves as a foundation of a growing utility. The first energy centre at the Winspear Center was designed to serve additional buildings and to integrate future low-carbon generating capacity, which follows a common approach in traditional district energy developments taken in other Canadian jurisdictions. Phase 1 of the Downtown District Energy Initiative has been operational since September 2025, and has reliably provided heating energy for more than one year. The City of Edmonton owns the utility and has partnered with EPCOR in developing this important initiative.
There will be a technical overview of the District Energy plant provided by City of Edmonton and EPCOR, followed by a walking tour of the project, including the District Energy plant and the connected buildings.
