Webinar | Computational Fluid Dynamics and Finite Element Analysis
Thermal loading can cause expansion, distortion, high-localized stresses, loss of alignment and fatigue damage in equipment exposed to temperature gradients or repeated heating and cooling cycles. This presentation will explain how computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and Abaqus finite element analysis (FEA) can be used together to perform thermo-mechanical analysis. CFD predicts fluid temperatures, heat-transfer coefficients, and thermal distributions, which are then transferred to an Abaqus structural model to evaluate thermal expansion, deformation, contact behaviour, restraint forces, and thermal stresses. The session will highlight how this combined methodology can help engineers identify design concerns, improve material, support selections, and reduce the risk of cracking, leakage, or premature failure.

About the Presenters
Bharath Kattemalalawadi, PhD, P.Eng., has more than six years of industry experience in the automotive and steam turbine manufacturing sectors, successfully executing key projects. With extensive expertise in fluid mechanics and thermal engineering, he has contributed to various engineering and research initiatives, delivering innovative solutions.
Kevin Yuen, M.Sc., P.Eng., is a simulation engineer with more than nine years of experience with non-linear static and dynamic finite element analysis with Abaqus. He is a certified Abaqus Instructor and Simulia technical support provider, and a structural engineer with six years of experience in design using steel, concrete, wood, cold-formed steel, aluminum, and custom-building materials.
