Fort McMurray Branch | Exploring the Chemistry of Alcohol
The Fort McMurray Branch invites members and guests to a unique adult‑focused educational social event: Exploring the Chemistry of Alcohol. This interactive session brings science out of the lab and into a relaxed, social environment, blending technical learning with meaningful professional networking.
Participants will explore the chemistry and science behind alcoholic beverages, including fermentation, distillation, and flavour development, guided by an industry professional with formal scientific training in oenology. We'll present complex concepts in an accessible and engaging way, making this event suitable for both technically inclined attendees and those simply curious about how chemistry shows up in everyday life.
The evening includes guided beverage tastings paired with a meal (chicken, beef, or vegetarian), providing a casual atmosphere for conversation and connection with fellow engineers, geoscientists, and members of the broader community. Whether you’re looking to expand your technical knowledge, meet new professionals, or enjoy a science‑inspired social night out, this event offers a memorable and valuable experience.
Spaces are limited, so register quickly!

About the presenter
Kaitlyn Burden is the proud owner of OutPost Fine Wine Spirits Beer, a Wine & Spirit Education Trust level 3-certified wine professional, and has been working in all aspects of the wine and beverage industry for nearly 20 years, five of which in Fort McMurray. She graduated with a degree in history and a graduate in wine business, and recently opened a brick-and-mortar shop in Fort McMurray to bring wine and alcohol to the masses in a more approachable manner.
Mason Spink grew up in Victoria B.C. and was bitten by the wine bug early in life. Mason moved to Ontario to study winemaking, and after completing his bachelor of science degree in oenology and viticulture, he moved back to B.C. to join the winemaking team at See Ya Later Ranch as the assistant winemaker. He was quickly promoted to winemaker and held that position for seven vintages. Just before the start of the 2013 vintage, Mason joined the Dirty Laundry Winery team and is always excited to release the exceptional wines Dirty Laundry Winery has to offer.
