Webinar | Preventing Industrial Facility Failures through Technical Communication

20 Jan 2026
Register by January 20, 2026

This webinar will explore modern approaches to equipment failure prevention and plant reliability through testing lessons, industrial radiography, and laser scanning technologies. The webinar will be presented by three speakers:

Ana Benz will address testing lessons and the importance of process communication in failure investigations. When working on pressure equipment failures, it is easy to think the reports must address whether we see fatigue, stress cracking, or others. After a short time, we learn that the real question is: How can this unexpected failure be prevented? Ana will talk about personal testing lessons and today’s valuable information conveyed by digital technologies.

Chris Bishop will speak about how today’s industrial radiography communicates information that minimizes the time needed to implement changes. He will discuss inspections of fabricated and in-service plant equipment.

Laurence Kuan will talk about the information we obtain with laser scanning in facilities and how that information is used. Whether it is maintaining the reliability of tanks and pressure vessels, assisting the fit-up of new equipment, or validating tubular inspection, laser scanning has a multitude of uses in the plant environment.

About the presenters

Ana Benz, P.Eng., is Apave Canada’s (formerly IRISNDT) chief engineer, and has worked for the company for 28 years as a corrosion, failure, and inspection specialist. Ana has worked extensively for chemical, petrochemical, and fertilizer plants, and oil and gas refineries. She has a CGSB NDT certificate and CWB Level 3 and API 510 certifications. She is Apave Canada's company voting member on the American Petroleum Institute (API) Subcommittee on Corrosion & Materials (SCCM).

Chris Bishop is a computed radiography and digital detector array subject matter expert at Apave. Chris has over 27 years of experience in the inspection business and maintains CGSB certifications in both radiographic testing and penetrant testing. He is a CR and DDA subject matter expert.

Laurence Kuan, P. Eng, is an asset integrity engineer at Apave. Laurence has a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Alberta. He has worked in the oil and gas industry for six years. He focuses on maintaining asset integrity at all stages, from data collection to performing fitness-for-service. Laurence leverages inspection techniques to ascertain the condition of assets (pipelines, pressure vessels, tanks, etc.) and then evaluates and maintains their integrity.
