The Edmonton Capital Region has extensive experience in hydrogen utilization across heavy industry, positioning the region as a key jurisdiction for other hydrogen-use opportunities. Since 2021, the region has advanced a hub-based approach to accelerate hydrogen adoption, delivering environmental and economic benefits.

This presentation will highlight some of the world-leading initiatives underway in the region and how the Edmonton Region Hydrogen Hub connects key ecosystem partners, including municipalities, industry, innovators and other orders of government.

About the presenter

Brent Lakeman is the executive director of the Edmonton Region Hydrogen Hub. He leads a small team of experts to catalyze initiatives to grow the demand for hydrogen across a range of sectors. Prior to taking on the leadership role of the hub, Brent served as director for Edmonton Global’s hydrogen initiative, where he led the organization’s efforts to position the Edmonton Metropolitan Region as Canada’s preeminent hydrogen hub. Before that, Brent served as the executive director for teams within the Alberta government, focusing on the growth and diversification of the province’s economy, with a strong focus on the clean technology, life sciences and digital technology sectors. He's also held leadership positions within Alberta’s research and innovation system, leading teams focused on CO2 capture, utilization and storage.
