This session will allow participants to understand how to define, rationalize, select, and operationalize strategic partnerships, and to distinguish strategic partnerships from other partnerships that institutions develop and implement.
The presentation will include the following:
- Criteria for a successful international partnership
- Qualitative/quantitative measurements/datasets that help define the success of a partnership
- Defining your strategic partnerships, including selecting a strategic partner
- Developing an action plan based on an international mission, considering its scalability, impact, and ability to partner

About the speaker
Professor Janaka Ruwanpura, an accomplished engineering academic and an award-winning leader, served as vice-provost and associate vice-president of research (international) at the University of Calgary (UCalgary) for 11+ years. As a professor of civil engineering, he was the Canada research chair in project management systems and the founding director of the Centre for Project Management Excellence at the Schulich School of Engineering. His academic journey began with a B.Sc. (Honours) from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, followed by an M.Sc. in construction management from Arizona State University and a Ph.D. in construction engineering and management from the University of Alberta.
