Building on more than a century of trust, APEGA is proud to release its new strategic plan, guided by a renewed vision of APEGA professionals driving a prosperous and resilient future.

The strategic plan positions APEGA to respond to Alberta’s ongoing needs and priorities, with a focus on responsive, risk-based regulation and upholding the high standards Albertans expect.

Serving the public interest

Approved by APEGA Council in June 2026, the strategic plan recognizes the important role of engineering and geoscience professionals in Alberta. APEGA’s redefined mission is to serve the public interest as the trusted regulator and supporter of Alberta’s engineering and geoscience professions.

“Serving the public interest is at the heart of APEGA’s purpose. Albertans rely on competent and ethical engineering and geoscience professionals, and this plan builds on our commitment to effective regulation while preparing for what Alberta needs next.”
– Dean Mullin, MBA, PhD, FEC, FGC (Hon.), P.Eng., president of APEGA

Strategic focus

The plan organizes APEGA’s work around three operational priorities. Together, they guide APEGA’s decisions and focus its operations in support of its primary mandate: regulating the practices of engineering and geoscience in Alberta on behalf of the Government of Alberta.

  1. Engage: Strengthen the way APEGA interacts with registrants, volunteers, and Albertans by prioritizing proactive communication, relationships, and service.
  2. Regulate: Safeguard Albertans, communities, and the economy through clear, consistent, and accountable regulation that keeps public protection at the forefront.
  3. Advance: Deliver efficient services, reduce duplication, and oversee resources to keep initiatives on time and on budget.

Working together for Alberta’s future

The plan is a decision-making framework, helping APEGA focus its efforts and resources on work that supports the priorities of Albertans, including economic growth, labour mobility, public protection, red-tape reduction, and workforce sustainability.

Collaboration across Alberta is integral to the strategy. APEGA will work with government, industry, education, and other partners to advance shared priorities and respond to the needs of the communities it serves.

“As we implement the strategy, APEGA will continue to be transparent about progress, open to feedback, and attentive to the evolving needs of Albertans, registrants, and the Government of Alberta as we carry out our mandate,” said Paul Wynnyk, P.Eng., registrar and CEO of APEGA. “I am confident that, working together, we will continue to deliver on that promise.”
