Discontinuation of APEGA’s Mentoring Program and Job Board

As we step into the new year, APEGA is emphasizing our main functions: licensing individuals and companies, educating registrants and the public, and regulating the engineering and geoscience professions in Alberta. While we’ve always prioritized these objectives, putting them in the spotlight signifies our continued commitment to ensuring the public can continue to place its trust in our professional designations.

Mentoring Program transition

To free up resources that will enable us to place greater emphasis on those core functions, APEGA will no longer be facilitating mentoring relationships for registrants through our Mentoring Program as of April 30.

The current program will be modified and integrated into APEGA’s new Work Readiness Program. This new initiative guides students and members-in-training in developing the knowledge and skills needed to prepare for their upcoming careers as APEGA professionals. Mentors and mentees can also check out the APEGA Mentoring Café, which creates a one-time connection between university students and industry professionals with no long-term commitment. 

Registrants will retain access to their mentoring accounts until April 30 so they can save contact information. New mentors and mentees will continue to be accepted into the formal mentoring program until then. All mentors and mentees are encouraged to maintain their mentoring connections after the current version of the program winds down.

We encourage all licensed professionals to continue to demonstrate strong mentoring support to the next generation of engineers and geoscientists by getting involved with their branches and attending professional development sessions.

Job Board discontinuation

Another way we’re zooming in on our mandate is by discontinuing the APEGA Job Board on April 30. There are many other sites on the internet that provide resources for job seekers and employers, so APEGA is conserving and redirecting these resources elsewhere to ensure the best use of member dues.

We appreciate the engagement facilitated through the Mentoring Program and the Job Board, and we look forward to working with and beside our registrants throughout 2024 and into the future.
