Medicine Hat Branch | Bevo Farms Greenhouse Tour

24 Sep 2026
Register by September 21

Join the Medicine Hat branch for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Bevo Farms greenhouse, one of the only completely enclosed greenhouses in Canada. This facility, originally constructed by Aurora Cannabis, showcases an impressive combination of engineering and automation.

In this tour, you will explore its sophisticated climate control systems, capable of creating virtually any growing environment through the integration of temperature, humidity, lighting, shading, irrigation, cooling, and heating controls. With an original cooling capacity of 12,000 tons, a 33,000 kW heating plant, and a centralized environmental control system coordinating every aspect of greenhouse operations, this tour offers a unique opportunity to see large-scale engineering solutions applied to modern controlled-environment agriculture.

About the presenter

McCall Leavitt, P.Eng., grew up farming in southern Alberta before earning a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from the University of Alberta. He began his career at Siemens, working with building automation systems, and later joined Sunwise, primarily in the Lethbridge office, where he specialized in building mechanical design. Seeking a more hands-on engineering role and an opportunity to reconnect with agriculture, McCall joined Bevo Farms. He has found that advanced greenhouse operations provide the ideal combination of farming and engineering, bringing together mechanical systems, automation, climate control, and crop production in one highly integrated environment.
