Join the Central Alberta Branch for an informative walking tour of the Deep Sky Alpha Carbon Capture plant in Innisfail, Alberta.
Deep Sky removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere using direct air capture (DAC) technology and sells carbon credits on the market. The company's mission is to accelerate the path to low cost, low energy, high integrity, and highly scalable carbon dioxide removal (CDR). The plant is powered by 100 per cent renewable solar energy and stores the captured carbon dioxide two kilometers underground, where it will safely remain for thousands of years. Its tech-agnostic nature decreases delivery and operational risks while increasing the speed at which the industry can scale. This novel approach solves the delays that have plagued past global carbon removal projects.
Multiple state-of-the-art DAC technologies will be deployed at the facility, sitting side by side with standardized instrumentation for the collection of operational data.

Dress code: Casual clothing is recommended. Closed-toe shoes are mandatory, and we recommend avoiding white shoes, as this is a live operating site. We will provide the required PPE. If you have your own PPE, including a hard hat, steel-toe shoes, safety goggles, or a high-visibility vest, we encourage you to bring it.
About the Presenter
Shawn Day is director of project development and community partnerships at Deep Sky, a carbon capture and storage company operating commercial-scale direct air capture projects in Alberta, where he has worked since September 2025 leading energy strategy, regulatory affairs, and Indigenous and community engagement. Shawn is also an Indigenous professional with status from Bigstone Cree Nation, and brings this combined technical and community-focused perspective to Deep Sky's project development work across Western Canada.
