Webinar | Practical Strategies for Mechanical System Compliance and High-Performance Building Design

05 May 2026
Register by May 4

This session explores how the National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings (NECB) 2017 and 2020 editions align with the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) 62.1 ventilation and indoor air quality requirements. It offers practical guidance for interpreting HVAC and energy modelling provisions, aligning outdoor air rates, and understanding the impact of prescriptive vs. performance paths. Case studies will highlight strategies for balancing energy efficiency with occupant wellness and navigating code harmonization.

We will explore how the NECB (2017 and 2020 editions) interfaces with ventilation and indoor air quality requirements under ASHRAE 62.1. The talk will provide practical insights for mechanical engineers, energy modelers, and design professionals to:

  • interpret NECB requirements for HVAC systems, controls, and energy modelling
  • align outdoor air requirements and system sizing with ASHRAE 62.1
  • understand how the prescriptive and performance paths affect HVAC layouts
  • review case studies on balancing thermal efficiency with occupant wellness
  • discuss the impact of code harmonization on project delivery and compliance

This session will be held through ON24.
