Webinar | Understanding Grief and Loss

“Time heals all wounds” is an often-used and well-intentioned statement that can negatively impact those experiencing loss. This webinar is for anyone interested in learning about loss and the grieving process, and how to move beyond empty platitudes towards meaningful ways to acknowledge their own grief and support others in their grief journeys.

Course objectives:
  • Define Loss
  • Identify stages in the grieving process
  • Describe disenfranchised grief
  • Identify helpful responses to someone who is grieving
  • Identify at least two resources in the Edmonton area that provide grief or bereavement support

About the presenters

Sarah PearsonSarah Pearson is a recovery and peer facilitator for the Canadian Mental Health Association Edmonton's Recovery College and the program coordinator for mental-health education. She is a registered social worker and has 11 years of experience working in addictions and mental health, predominately within Edmonton's inner-city community servicing the city's most vulnerable unhoused population.

 

 

Jeremy LivingstonJeremy Livingston is a recovery and peer facilitator for the Canadian Mental Health Association Edmonton’s Recovery College. He has studied philosophy at the graduate level, and law. He is originally from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and has lived in Edmonton for the past nine years.
