UBC Builds World's Tallest Wood Structure

The University of British Columbia has completed construction of the world’s tallest wood building. The 18-storey Brock Commons student residence was built to showcase the advantages of building with wood.

Designed by Vancouver’s Acton Ostry Architects, with structural engineer Fast & Epp, it is the first mass wood, steel, and concrete hybrid project taller than 14 storeys in the world. The university notes that wood is a sustainable building material that stores, rather than emits, carbon dioxide.
