President Kicks Off Coffee Chats, June 15 and 22

President Nima Dorjee, P.Eng.His story is a compelling one, from his humble beginnings in a Tibetan refugee settlement in India to his successful life, career, and human rights work in Calgary. But it's your stories and talking points that President Nima Dorjee, P.Eng., FEC, FGC (Hon.), is particularly interested in, as the subject matter for informal coffee chats during his term.

"The chats are about whatever is on members' minds; I have no agenda whatsoever. Members can tell me their stories, if that's what they want to do. We can discuss issues. We can discuss personal circumstances. We can even discuss the weather," Mr. Dorjee explains.

"I want to engage with members and listen to what they've got to say. I won't have all the answers, but I do hope to gain extra insight into what's important to members."

The first chat is in Edmonton on Friday, June 15, and the second is in Calgary on Friday, June 22. The get-togethers are from 4 to 6 p.m. at each city's APEGA office. There's no preregistration—simply drop in, say hello to your 99th President, and let him know what's on your mind.

"The important thing here is that we're a community of engineers and geoscientists. That's a natural support system, and we can use it to connect as people and as professionals. These chats will also be a networking opportunity for members. They're a chance for members to meet each other and find out what's going on in the careers and practices of their professional peers," he says. "I see my presidency as an opportunity to help bring our community together."

Mr. Dorjee hopes the chats resonate with members. "I don't know what will happen. Let's find out together."

Remember: no preregistration is necessary. Just show up anytime between 4 and 6 p.m. and be ready to chat.
