Faster 2D and 3D Printing

Researchers at Penn State’s College of Engineering at University Park, Pennsylvania, are working on 2D and 3D printers that are up to 1,000 times faster than today’s models.

The researchers found that by raising the temperature of an advanced beam deflector, they could decrease the scanning speed for 20,000 pages to one minute. The high-speed imaging breakthrough is expected to be particularly helpful in medical applications. In eye surgery, for example, it could allow doctors to use 3D images of retinas to see what should be corrected, as they are performing surgery.
