Bylaw 37(3) - Mail & Electronic Voting

APEGA Council wishes to update Bylaw 37(3) to improve a requirement for validation of the results of mail and electronic votes, enabling Council to govern in a more timely and effective manner.

Under the current bylaw, at least 10 per cent of eligible voters must participate for results to be valid. When Professional Members vote on topics that may not hold a high level of interest or affect a large number of Members, that minimum can be a barrier.

APEGA recognizes that the input of its Members is vital to APEGA’s role in self-regulating the engineering and geoscience professions. Having an unrealistic required number of votes will interfere with APEGA’s ability to engage Members in setting APEGA bylaws.

APEGA is holding consultation sessions in Edmonton and Calgary, as well as webinars, to obtain Members’ input on this bylaw change. We encourage you to participate in one of these sessions. If you are unable to participate, please read the briefing note on the proposed options and provide us with your input using our online survey by March 4.

Council will consider Members’ feedback at the March 23 Council meeting. If Council decides that Bylaw 37(3) should be updated, the revised wording will be presented at the April 28 Annual General Meeting in Calgary for a Member vote. We hope you will attend the AGM to engage with your professional association on this important matter.
