APEGA Advances Equality and Diversity Project

In early 2018, APEGA was awarded federal funding by the Department for Women & Gender Equality (formerly Status of Women Canada) to look at workplace barriers facing female engineering and geoscience professionals—things like pay equity, hiring practices, and advancement opportunities. We’re collecting data from our 77,000 members on professional issues, concerns, and needs, specifically regarding workplace barriers, and we want to hear from all gender identities.

First Phase: Survey

We’re kicking off the first phase of our project with a survey to discover your thoughts on work-life balance, safety, and challenges in the workplace. Please take the time to share your opinions and experiences. At the end of the survey, you can submit your email address for the chance to win one of three $100 Visa gift cards.

The survey closes on Thursday, March 14, and the draw will take place on Thursday, March 21.

Second Phase: Consultation

The second phase of the project consists of consultations on the same topic, being held this month and next. If you’re interested in participating in a deeper discussion about the status of women and equity in the professions, you can submit your contact information at the end of the survey or register online.

Consultations will be held by phone and Skype (less than 30 minutes), and during in-person and virtual focus groups (1.5 to two hours). The in-person focus groups will be held over the lunch hour or in the evening and will be catered. Your personal information will not be shared with anyone, and any identifying factors that come up over the course of the discussion will never be shared or published.

We value your important contributions in helping us measure and improve diversity in the workplace.
