Mentor Information

The Mentoring Program is currently available in Calgary and Edmonton only, with plans to expand to satellite Branches in 2017.

Why Be a Mentor?

Mentoring a less experienced person in your field allows you to give back to your profession. But there are other benefits to being a volunteer mentor for you, such as:

  • being a role model and guide
  • enhancing your skill in mentoring, which helps supervisors provide ongoing support and training
  • learning from your mentees (reverse mentoring)
  • attending training and recognition events
  • claiming up to 20 Continuing Professional Development hours for each year of active mentoring (Participation category)
  • potentially being nominated for an Outstanding Mentor Summit Award.

Who Can Be a Mentor?

APEGA mentors are Professional Members who want share their expertise and wisdom with less experienced Members, including many internationally educated graduates.

Do the following statements describe you?

  • I am an active listener.
  • I am compassionate.
  • I am open and willing to share.
  • I am able to give constructive feedback.
  • I am patient.

If so, you could be an APEGA mentor!

Each mentoring partnership lasts roughly one year, typically involving twice-monthly meetings and email and/or phone communication on non-meeting weeks.
