Isolation Techniques in Piping Systems to Prevent Major Incidents

8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Register by June 6, 2017

Protecting people, the environment, and the business are important for organizations. Inadequate isolation puts these priorities at risk. Many significant process safety loss incidents and near-miss events occur because of insufficient isolation of piping systems for work. This session explores various piping layouts such as DBB/DIB, PSV’s, Control Valves, and large vessels, that are used in chemical process unit operations, refinery operations, and pipeline operations. The management and control of hazardous energy and certifying safety by a Professional Engineer is critical to safe isolation.

Topics discussed include:

  • means of isolation for dismantling piping
  • good design, and
  • proper planning practices for new construction (green fields), retrofits and maintenance.

When you participate in this session, you'll receive:

  • Review of Alberta OHS Code on isolation of pipes and piping (Part 15, Section 215.4)
  • A deeper understanding of the requirements of isolation, and several means implementing isolation for safe work.
