Contract Administration and Contractual Issues for Projects

This module will cover legal and contractual issues related to the effective management and administration of construction projects. It focuses on the roles and responsibilities of the owners' project managers to contractors and suppliers and discusses the practical implications of the legal precedents and improves the ability to make better decisions. Cases and disputes situations will be reviewed and discussed with participants.

About the Presenter

George Jergeas, P.Eng., PhDDr. George Jergeas P.Eng., is a Professor and Director of Projects in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary, where he has taught and researched in project management since 1994. George's areas of focus are: cost overruns, productivity, governance, contracting, contractual strategies and contract administration, collaborative relationships, and claims and disputes.

George has over forty years of experience investigating cost overruns and delays on major capital projects (largely infrastructure and oil sands). George's work centres on improving project alignment, and building and sustaining project teams, enhancing construction productivity, and making effective contractual arrangements, project governance and risk management. George has assisted project teams in oil sands developments, hospitals, roads and bridges, tunnelling, LRT expansions, and mining. George co-authored, "Risk Navigation Strategies for Major Capital Projects: Beyond the Myth of Predictability", 2011 and "Benevolent Dictatorship for Major Capital Projects", 2017.
