There is increasing interest in understanding more about pipeline leak detection methods and how to implement them for liquid pipelines. Leak detection is a diverse topic drawing on a broad range of technical skills and experience. This presentation will provide an overview of various methods focusing on their applicability on upstream and midstream liquid pipelines. It will also discuss the pipeline regulatory requirements including how leak detection fits into Pipeline Safety and Loss Management programs.
The presentation will close with a discussion of some lessons learned on recent projects
About the Presenter
Ian Butterworth, P.Eng., manages the implementation of pipeline leak detection systems and control system cyber security at Beta-Tech. Ian has a Mechanical Engineering degree with many years of multidisciplinary work in pipeline and facility control systems locally and internationally.
Ian is active with committees and industry groups. He is a member of the APEGA Investigative Committee, in the APEGA Mentoring Program, and is an International Society of Automation, ISA 99 committee member.
