Calgary Branch PD Evening: Leadership, Creating Culture, and Getting Results
5:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Register by March 31, 2019
Who has the most influence in any organization? The leader. At every level of an organization, the leader demonstrates the values that manifest and models the behaviours that influence and determine the culture of the entire organization. How can a leader become aware of their influence and consciously make choices that create and support a powerful and productive culture? What practices can create clarity, accountability, and a strong sense of team? Leading others is not an easy skill set, nor is it one that comes naturally to most people.
In Canada, most professionals advance to a leadership position due to their technical expertise, yet leading others effectively requires an entirely different set of skills. Much like attaining a degree or credential in a professional field, leadership skills are gained through training and purposeful practice. Used in conjunction with coaching and applied in an organization, leaders rapidly affect change, not just for a project or goal but for the entire culture of the organization.
Employing a combination of presentation, discussion, and interaction, you will have an opportunity to learn how to affect change in your organization, grow as a leader, and receive insights and feedback on your own leadership challenges.
About the Presenter
Randy Maus has been a leader his whole life. He grew up in Minnesota in the United States, where he was engaged in music as chair of the percussion section and sports as co-captain of the basketball team. This was only the beginning. He earned his bachelor’s degree in math and computer science, followed by a master of science focused on post-secondary leadership. This began a more than 20-year career working in university residence systems training leaders and progressively leading larger teams. Most recently, he served at the University of Calgary, where, in addition to creating a culture of leadership for over 200 staff and 2500 students, he had the privilege to lead this team as they provided emergency housing for over 1200 Calgarians during the 2013 floods as well as 1800 Albertans affected by the 2016 wildfires.
Randy now uses his extensive leadership experience to coach leaders who are progressing in their careers and entrepreneurs keen to grow. He guides them to find clarity, confidence, and their next level of leadership. His company, Front of the Room Leadership, is headquartered in Western Canada and operates across North America.
