Available Positions

  • Oversees all initiatives and assist coordinators as needed, and preside over and provide leadership at committee meetings.

    Average Time Commitment

    5-10 hours per month

    Responsibilities

    • To preside over and provide leadership at committee meetings in a way which:
      • encourages openness, participation and motivation of members
      • maintains order and respects appropriate rules of procedure
      • ensures that the Committee’s deliberations/activities are effective and properly focused
      • advances the Committee’s annual and longer-term objectives        
    • Oversee all initiatives and assist coordinators as needed
    • Coordinate with all branches of the committee to ensure that events, proposals and reports are on track and submitted in a timely manner

    Skills and Qualifications

    • Engineering or geoscience student at the University of Calgary or Mount Royal University
    • Comfortable speaking to and leading a group of peers

  • Organizes committee meetings, including booking meeting spaces, preparing agendas, taking minutes, and following up on action items.

    Average Time Commitment

    3-10 hours per month

    Responsibilities

    Provide support for Committee meetings by:

    • Consulting with the Chair on items to be addressed at committee meetings
    • Prepare and distribute meeting agendas and notices
    • Create polls to determine meeting dates
    • Track meeting attendance
    • Book meeting space and arrange for catering
    • Record and distribute meeting minutes
    • Follow up on action items and bring concerns forward to Chair

    Skills and Qualifications

    • Engineering or geoscience student at the University of Calgary or Mount Royal University
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Experience with taking meeting minutes
    • Detail oriented, deadline oriented, and well-organized
    • Intermediate level of skill with Excel
    • Intermediate level of skill with Word
  • Acts as a liaison between the Student Liaison Committee and Student Club Representatives.

    Average Time Commitment

    2-7 hours per month

    Responsibilities

    Provide support for Committee meetings by:

    • Maintain and update a list of student club representatives
    • Email representatives prior to SLC meeting to:
      • Invite them to attend the event live
      • If they are unable to attend, request a report about what their club is planning for events, and how APEGA can help
    • Present reports at the SLC meetings
    • Provide Club Representatives with upcoming SLC event information and request they share with their members.
    • Attend SLC Committee meetings

    • Detail oriented and well-organized
    • Intermediate level of skill with Excel
  • Responsible for planning, creating, and following through on marketing strategies and materials for committee events.

    Average Time Commitment

    • 5-8 hours per month

    Responsibilities

    • Coordinate the marketing for committee events
    • Create a marketing strategy in cooperation with Event Coordinator
    • Set deadlines
    • Create required materials
    • Send all materials to APEGA staff for approval
    • Arrange for printing and distribution of all materials
    • Deliver 5-minute classroom presentations to promote event
    • Promote events on social media and coordinate onsite social media presence at events
    • Attend committee meetings

    Skills and Qualifications

    • Engineering or geoscience student at the University of Alberta
    • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, organizational, and written communication skills
    • Outgoing and friendly
    • Basic graphic design skills
    • Experience with social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Organizes committee events, including booking venues, catering, and working with the volunteer and marketing coordinators to make each event a success.

    Average Time Commitment

    • 10-20 hours per month (August - November, January - March)

    The hours are highest in August & January a we plan the term, but time commitment would start to decrease later into the term.

    Responsibilities

    • Overall coordination of committee events
      • Determine the theme, date, and location of the event
      • Book room for event
      • Work with Marketing Coordinator to plan promotional strategy
      • Work with Volunteer Coordinator to determine the positions that need to be filled
      • Plan all details of event and set deadlines for completion of tasks
        • Assign tasks to supporting Event Assistants
      • Create and update event schedule
      • Oversee Event Assistants
    • Provide regular updates to Committee
    • Attend Committee meetings
    • Troubleshoot any problems that arise at events (no-shows, technical problems, etc.)
    • Attend events and assist as needed

    Skills and Qualifications

    • Engineering or geoscience student at the University of Calgary or Mount Royal University
    • Detail oriented, self-motivated and well-organized
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Comfortable leading a group of peers
    • Experience planning events and presentations
  • Works with the Event Coordinator to recruit and manage volunteers for committee events.

    Average Time Commitment

    • 1-3 hours per month (July-August)
    • 4-7 hours per month (September-November; January-March)

    Responsibilities

    • Overall coordination of volunteers for events
      • Recruit student volunteers for various positions (set-up, registration, clean-up, etc.)
      • Create schedule of shifts for event
      • Ensure volunteers are aware of their responsibilities
      • Sign-in volunteers upon arrival and review duties
      • Manage volunteers onsite (answering questions, troubleshooting)
    • Ensure volunteers are recognized for their contributions
    • Attend committee meetings
    • Attend events and assist as needed

    • Engineering or geoscience student at the University of Calgary or Mount Royal University
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Experience working with volunteers
    • Experience with staffing/scheduling
    • Problem solving skills
    • Excellent communication skills
  • Works with the Event Coordinator, taking responsibility for administrative tasks for committee events.

    Average Time Commitment

    • 1-3 hours per month (August)
    • 5-10 hours per month (September-November; January-March)

    Responsibilities

    • Perform all administrative tasks for events
      • Prepare name tags and other required items for event
      • Attend event and handle onsite registration
    • Provide regular updates to Event Coordinator
    • Assist the Event Coordinator in the preparation of all event reports
    • Maintain communication with the Volunteer Coordinator to sign up for events & training sessions
    • Attend monthly Committee meetings
    • Attend all events and assist as needed

    Skills and Qualifications

    • Engineering or geoscience student at the University of Calgary or Mount Royal University
    • Detail oriented, self-motivated and well-organized
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Experience planning events and presentations
    • Intermediate level of skill with Word
    • Intermediate level of skill with Excel
  • Provides an MRU perspective on committee discussions, and works with the Marketing Coordinator to promote events to MRU students.

    Average Time Commitment

    • 1-3 hours per month (August)
    • 5-10 hours per month (September-November; January-March)

    Responsibilities

    • Attend meetings
    • Offer thoughts and ideas on events from a Mount Royal University prospective
    • Work with the Marketing Coordinator to ensure events are being marketed directly to MRU students
    • Attend meetings
    • Attend events and assist as needed
