Volunteer as a member of ABC Task Force

APEGA is looking for volunteers with extensive professional practice working with the existing Alberta Building Code to participate in an Alberta Building Code (ABC) Task Force. This task force has been set up under the direction of a working group comprised of senior staff from Alberta Municipal Affairs, the Safety Codes Council, the Alberta Architects Association, and Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta.

The task force's mandate is to explore the value and adequacy of the schedules associated with the Alberta Building Code with the goal of providing alternatives and/or recommendations for the working group to consider.

As part of APEGA's criteria for selection for this volunteer position, volunteers may be required to undergo a credit and criminal background check, performed by Sterling BackCheck on behalf of APEGA.

Reporting Structure 

The task force is chaired by John Corriveau, P.Eng., Director, Regulatory Affairs.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 10 years professional practice experience working with the Alberta Building Code schedules in any provincial jurisdiction
  • APEGA member in good standing for 5 years
  • Practice experience in one of mechanical, electrical, or geotechnical engineering (other disciplines may be considered)

Term of Office

  • Six months up to one year. This is a one-time task force which will dissolve once the review process has concluded.

Average Time Commitment

It is anticipated that there will be in-person biweekly meetings of roughly 2 hours duration, plus additional meeting-preparation work.
