ENGINEERS -
general registration
What is a P.Eng.? The P.Eng. designation is a professional licence, allowing you to practice engineering in Alberta and take responsibility for that work. Only engineers licensed with APEGA, or those practising under the direct supervision of a P.Eng. licensed with APEGA, have a legal right to practice engineering in Alberta.
A P.Eng. is also entitled to participate in
the governance of the Association. As a P.Eng., you are a voting member of APEGA
and can run for APEGA Council. You can also participate on APEGA’s many
Boards and Committees.
What is a Foreign Licensee?
1. If you are not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (landed immigrant) of Canada, you should apply for licensure as a Foreign Licensee rather than as a P.Eng.
2. A Foreign Licensee must meet the exact same admission criteria as a P.Eng.,
however, a Foreign Licensee is not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of
Canada. A Foreign Licensee, like a P.Eng., is given a license to practice engineering
in Alberta and to take responsibility for that work. A Foreign Licensee is not
entitled to participate in the governance of APEGA.
What is an Engineer-in-Training (EIT)?
An EIT is a Member-in-Training with APEGA who has completed the academic and good character requirements but is still working towards gaining the required engineering experience for licensure as a P.Eng. An EIT can practice engineering in Alberta and gain the experience required for licensure as a P.Eng. as long as he or she is working under the supervision and control of a licensed Professional Member.
