APEGA ELECTION PROCESS

HOW A PROFESSIONAL MEMBER CAN RUN FOR COUNCIL

If you are a professional member in good standing, and you wish to run for Council you can do one of the following:

1. If you are interested in being considered by the Nominating Committee, submit your name and a brief resume (one page or less) to: ceo@apega.ca prior to September 1st and it will be put before the members of the Nominating Committee.

2. If you miss the September 1st deadline, or you did not make the slate of candidates chosen by the Nominating Committee, you can self-nominate as a write-in candidate (see highlighted section below).

The Nominating Committee meets in the fall prior to the next year’s election, selects a slate of candidates, and submits their report to the Chief Executive Officer by mid-November. This list is published in both the e-PEG and the December issue of the PEG magazine.

Once the Report of the Nominating Committee has been published, any professional member (Professional Engineer, Professional Geoscientist, or Professional Licensee) in good standing may self-nominate themselves by submitting a properly completed form declaring their intention to run and commitment to serve. This form must be signed by ten professional members in good standing and received by the CEO at least 90 days before the AGM.

A write in candidate must use the form - the NOMINATION FOR ELECTION TO COUNCIL – which is provided on the website and published in the December issue of PEG magazine or by emailing ceo@apega.ca. Being date specific this form is only available from mid-November until submission deadline.

Nomination forms must reach the Chief Executive Officer no later than 90 days prior to the Annual General Meeting.

Please note: only those who already have one year of experience on Council are eligible to run for the position of President-Elect/Vice President.

Each year a Nominating Committee is appointed at the annual meeting to serve for the ensuing year.

Not less than 150 days prior to the annual meeting, the nominating committee submits to the Chief Executive Officer a list of nominees for Council which includes the president-elect as the sole nominee for president, three nominees for president-elect/vice president, and at least three more nominees for Councillors than there are vacancies to be filled on Council

Nominees for president-elect/vice president shall have served at least one year on the Council

Not less than 120 days prior to the annual meeting, the Chief Executive Officer distributes to each professional member, either directly by mail, email, or via the Association publication known as the PEG, a list of the nominations made by the nominating committee.

Additional nominations for any office or any offices, except the president, may be made in writing by any ten professional members. Such nominations shall reach the Chief Executive Officer properly endorsed not later than 90 days prior to the annual meeting and shall be accompanied by the written consent of the nominee or nominees to act if elected.

Prior to the annual meeting, the president or the Chief Executive Officer shall inform the candidates in the election of the results of the balloting including the number of votes cast for each candidate

The results of the election shall be announced at the annual meeting by the chairperson of the meeting
